Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've never done yoga before? Are there beginners classes?

Yes! The beauty of yoga is that it is ideal for everyone. It doesn’t matter your age, abilities, body type etc. You will find something that works best for you. And you will also find that there are a variety of ways to customize your practice to make it work for you. If you are new to yoga, you can practice alongside advanced students to visualize the progression of the poses. Every class is open to both beginners and advanced students. There will be customizations in the power and gentle flow classes that will suit the first time yogi and the seasoned athlete. You take each pose to your ability and rest when needed. From time to time we do offer a beginners only series and will announce when it is being placed on the schedule.

How often should I take classes?

Come as often as you can. The time and effort you put into doing Hot Yoga will be returned to you tenfold. We recommend 3 or more times a week, especially in the beginning. Within four weeks you will see (and feel!) noticeable differences!

Is yoga just for flexible people? What if I'm not flexible?

Then you officially have the best reason ever to come to a Bodhi Tree Hot yoga class! But really, don't worry about all the bendy people around you. They have either been practicing for a while or were simply born bendy! Flexibility will come with time and you don't have to be flexible to start. Bodhi Tree teachers know how to modify postures to make every posture benefit even the least flexible person.

Should I do hot yoga if I have a medical condition?

Please let the teacher know if you have any injuries, illnesses, or special conditions. You can still do most yoga postures, with a few customizations that the teacher will show you. It is important to remember that you set your own pace, as you are your own teacher. It is also best to consult your health care professional should you have any concerns.

What if I feel dizzy or nauseous during class. Is this normal?

It is not unusual to feel nauseous or dizzy during your first class. Practicing yoga in a heated room reveals to us our present condition, and inspires us to take much better care of ourselves. A common daily issue is dehydration. Of course, exercising in a heated room will enhance the level of awareness of such matters. Nutritionists tell us that we need 64-80 ounces of water a day to help the body function properly. In the heated yoga room, your body needs an adequate amount of water to allow perspiration to release heat from the body as you practice. With that in mind, we estimate you need another 64-80 ounces (sometime during the day) to prepare for your 60 minutes of hot yoga practice. Once you are drinking enough water, your body will tolerate the heat better and you will actually really welcome and enjoy the heat!

Will I lose weight?

Are you committed to coming to regular classes? Then Yes! Losing weight is one of the major benefits that is enjoyed from a regular yoga practice. Our classes are excellent cardiovascular workouts that raise the heart rate and burn fat. We also encourage you to follow a clean diet in order to maximize your results.

Who can practice prenatal yoga?

These classes are open to women enjoying a healthy pregnancy and who are in their second and/or third trimesters. Previous experience in yoga is not necessary; many pregnant women come as complete beginners to yoga.

I recently gave birth. When can I return to yoga?

It is a good idea to wait approximately 4 - 6 weeks after the delivery of your baby to attend class. If you had a caesarian delivery, this time should be extended to approximately 8-10 weeks, or until you receive the go-ahead from your doctor.
